 MTF Update #6

by Jerry Bookin-Weiner, MTF Interim Chair

Several new developments to report and a heads up for one to come.

First, MTF normally would have held its Awards Banquet at the Outdoor Championships in Greensboro this summer.  However, because that meet was cancelled and no banquet was held, meaning our 2019 Award winners (Age Group and Event Group as well as Overall) were never honored in front of our community.

Rather than waiting until 2021 (or perhaps even later) we will be holding a Virtual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 17 at 4 pm Eastern Time.  The ceremony will take place on a Zoom platform and anyone who is interested in attending may request the link and passcode by emailing Awards Sub-Committee Chair Rachel Guest at fsttrck75@yahoo.com.  The total number of attendees is limited to 100, so access will be first come-first served.

Second, a second Virtual Challenge will be coming soon.  Similar to the USATF Masters 2020 Summer Virtual Challenge, the USATF Masters 2020 Fall Virtual Challenge will include the same events and be conducted on the athletic.net platform.  Unfortunately, revisions to the platform have not yet been accomplished, so it will be identical.  Watch for more detailed announcements within the next week to 10 days.

Third, earlier this week WMA President Margit Jungmann announced that a final decision on the previously announced WMA Outdoor Championships in Tampere, Finland next summer will be made January 15, 2021.  It will be based on the situation at that time with COVID-19.  As a result, do not make any arrangements for Finland until after the announcement.  If the meet is going forward, entries will open in late January.

Finally, the USATF Annual Meeting will take place virtually from December 2-5, 2020.  Registration and schedule information will be available shortly on the USATF website.  This year the Masters Committee will include 34 Active Athletes, selected from among all the Active Athletes who register for the meeting.  To be considered and to vote on the 34 who will have a vote in the Committee’s proceedings (including elections), a form must be submitted to MTF Secretary Amanda Scotti prior to the beginning of the meeting.  Full details of that process will be publicized in a future MTF Update after the MTF Executive Committee approves it at a meeting in about two weeks’ time, so stay tuned….
