In Other News

The Gainesville (FL) Sports Commission has submitted a bid to World Masters Athletics to host the 2025 WMA Indoor Championships. The dates proposed are March 23-30, 2025, with the meet being held at the Alachua Sports and Events Center at Celebration Point. A team from WMA will conduct a site visit in Gainesville in mid-December, and we are hopeful that the selection will be confirmed shortly thereafter. This will be the first time the WMA Indoor meet will held in the US and the second time in North America (it was in Kamloops, British Columbia in 2010). Stay tuned for more information as this process moves forward!

The 2024 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships are slated to be held in Sacramento, CA, with tentative dates of July 18-21. Since Sacramento was awarded the bid several year ago there have been changes in the availability of the primary facility – Sacramento State University – and a site visit by members of the USATF Masters Championships Games Subcommittee in mid-October will determine which venue will be used and the precise dates. Final word should be available by the end of October.

Sue McDonald (W60) of Santa Barbara, CA has been selected as the USATF Masters Track & Field Overall Athlete of the Year and will be our nominee for WMA Athlete of the Year as well. Sue had an incredible season, starting with setting World W60 Records in the 800m and 1500m at the World Masters Indoor Championships in Poland in March, followed by World Records in several other events outdoors, including the heptathlon, long hurdles, 800m, 400m, and 1500m.
