Kathy Bergen USATF Masters Athlete of the Year – Gary Patton MTF Male Athlete of the Year

MTF Hall of Fame member Kathy Bergen (W81) of La Cañada, California, is the USATF Masters Athlete of the Year. She will be honored during the Night of Legends at the USATF Annual Meeting in December.

In selecting Bergen, the MTF Awards Subcommittee took into account her accomplishments in both 2020 and 2021 because no awards were made for 2020. In 2020, Bergen set three indoor World Masters W80 Age Group Records in the 60m (10.02), 200m (35.66), and high jump (1.20m) and two outdoor records in the 100m (16.62) and high jump (1.15m). In 2021, she set World W80 Age Group Records in the 100m (16.26) and 200m (35.34), and won four events at the Outdoor Championships in Ames, Iowa – 100m (16.54), 200m (37.20), high jump (1.11m), and discus throw (17.89m).

MTF Hall of Fame member Gary Patton (M75) of Rock Rapids, Iowa, is the MTF Male Athlete of the Year. In 2021, Patton set American Masters M75 Age Group Records in the 800m (2:37.06), 1500m (5:19.87), and mile (5:55.26) and won gold at the Outdoor Championships in Ames, Iowa in the 800m (2:38.25), 1500m (5:19.87), and 5000m (24:05.90).

Other Age Group and Event Group awards will be decided in the coming weeks and announced at the Annual Meeting.
