USATF Masters Outdoor TF Championships
Lexington KY, July 28-31

The 2022 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships at the University of Kentucky will kick off in Lexington on Thursday, July 28, running through Sunday, July 31. Click here for the detailed schedule.

Full meet information is also available on the event website on usatf.org.

Registration, now closed, is the strongest in many years, with 1253 athletes signed up. During the competition view live results linked on the event website and watch the meet on usatf.tv (for a fee).

Outdoor Champs Giveaway

All participants in the 2022 USATF Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be entered in a backpack/travel bag giveaway during the championships. Each registered athlete will receive one raffle ticket in their packet. Athletes only need to print their name and phone number on the ticket and keep the other half as verification. The drop off for the raffle tickets will be at the Declaration Table. The drawing will take place on Sunday before the start of the relays. The winner will have a choice of one of three USATF bags and will be contacted if they have already departed the championship. You do not need to be present to win!

 

 

“The Freeze” – Bobblehead Raffle

M40 sprinter Durran Dunn has turned his sprinting ability into an exciting side gig as “The Freeze” at Atlanta Braves games. Recently the Braves and RaceTrac (sponsor of ‘Beat The Freeze’) gave away “The Freeze” bobbleheads at a game. Durran donated two to raffle off at the Outdoor Nationals. Tickets are $10 each and available at the National Masters News table at the meet. All proceeds go to the WMA Travel Grant Program.

At the recent WMA Championships, Dunn won silver in the 100m, bronze in the 200m and was introduced to the crowd as “The Freeze.”  View videos of The Freeze in action!

Upcoming Events

National Masters Outdoor Combined Events Championships
St. Charles, Missouri
August 27-28

The National Masters Outdoor Combined Events Championships will take place at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri on August 27-28, 2022. The event features the 10-event decathlon for women and men as well as the 7-event heptathlon for women. Open entries are allowed for those over 18yo!

Registration is open until Aug 21st and full meet information is available on the meet webpage on usatfmasters.org.

USATF Mid America Region Masters Outdoor Championships
Boulder, Colorado
August 13-14

The 2022 USATF Mid America Masters Outdoor Championships will be held August 13 -14 at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Day one of the meet features longer distance and throwing events. Day two will have the throws pentathlon, field events, and track events under 3000m.  The mile race will be part of the ‘Mile High Mile’ at nearby Centaurus High School, the evening of August 13. The Mile High Mile showcases mile races ranging from youth to masters including elite competitors and provides cash prizes for top finishers in several categories. The meet will once again include the crowd favorite ‘Handicap 100m’ at the end of day two.

USATF West Region Masters Outdoor TF Championships
Hayward CA
October 23

The 2022 West Region Masters Outdoor Championships will be held in Northern California for the first time in decades, combined with the Pacific Association Masters Outdoor Championships, on Sunday, October 23. The meet will take place at Chabot College in Hayward, CA (Bay Area). Members of the Pacific Association will be eligible for double awards (Regional medals as well as Association medals). The meet website, including entry portal will be up soon at usatfmasters.org.


WMA Championships

2022 Summary

Team USATF Masters concluded a very successful WMA Championships in Tampere, Finland on Sunday July 10 with a third place finish on the medal table, trailing only host Finland and nearby Germany.

There were 342 US Masters athletes registered for the meet of which 240 who competed. They brought home a total of 175 medals, including 72 golds, 60 silvers, and 42 bronzes.

A World Age Group Record was established by Tami Graf (W85) in the Heptathlon. American Age Group Records were broken by Lynne Hurrell (W85) in the 800m, Roxanne Brockner (W55) in the 200m, Nat Larson (M60) in the 5000m, Carol Finsrud (W65) in the discus throw, and Kathy Frable (W75) who broke a 35-year-old Record in the 20k Road Race Walk. Other notable performances by Michael Kish (M70 100m), Tami Graf (200m hurdles), Carol Finsrud (discus), and Nonie Hudnall (W70 Heptathlon) cannot be officially recognized because of illegal hurdles, sloping fields, or excessive wind readings.

Planning Ahead for 2023

The dates and locations of the major Masters Track & Field events in 2023

March 10-12 USATF Masters Indoor Championships, Louisville, KY
March 26-April 1 WMA Indoor Championships, Torun, Poland
July 20-23 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships, Greensboro, NC

The NCCMA (North America, Central America, Caribbean Region Masters Athletics) Championships will take place in 2023; no site or dates have yet been announced for the NCCMA meet.

The National Masters Combined Events (indoor and outdoor) and National Masters Throws Championships are not yet scheduled for 2023.

The National Senior Games will take place July 8-13 in Pittsburgh, PA.
