Nominating Subcommittee: 2024 is an election year for USATF Masters. At the USATF Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL in early December all four officer positions on the USATF Masters Track and Field Committee are up for election. Those positions are Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. Current chair Jerry Bookin-Weiner announced when he ran for the position in 2020 that he would only serve one term. The MTF Operating Procedures dictate that the Executive Committee appoint a Nominating Subcommittee of three people to screen applicants to stand for election. At a meeting in early May they appointed James W. Pearce, Jr of the Potomac Valley Association to chair that committee and appointed Damon Blakemore of the Gulf Association and Tina Klein of the Georgia Association as the other members of the committee. Expect to be hearing from them soon; they must present their nominees 48 hours prior to the elections. Nominations from the floor at the Annual Meeting are also accepted, with the proviso that the nominees must be present and agree to their nominations. Members of the Nominating Subcommittee may not run for office.
WMA Treasurer Nomination: At the WMA General Assembly in Gothenburg, delegates will be electing the organization’s President and Treasurer for the next four years. Current WMA President Margit Jungmann of Germany will be running for re-election to another four-year term. The current Treasurer, Jean Thomas of France, is term-limited, and cannot seek another term. At its meeting in early May, the MTF Executive Committee voted unanimously to support the nomination of USATF Masters Active Athlete Representative and WMA Delegate Colleen Barney for the position of WMA Treasurer.
WMA Indoor 2025
Entries for WMACi2025 in Alachua County, Florida will be opening in June. Be on the lookout. Let’s have a great turnout of USATF Masters athletes for this World Championships in our country for the first time indoors!
Bronze Medals from Indoor Championships in Chicago
Those who won bronze medals at the Indoor Championships in Chicago, for the most part, did not get those medals there because Fedex did not deliver them – in fact they didn’t turn up until mid-April. By early May staff in the USATF National Office had mailed them all out to the medal winners, however quite a few of them were returned by USPS and they had to be resent. That process is still on going now. If you do not get your expected bronze medals by the end of May, send an email to masterstf@usatf.org so your medal(s) can be tracked down. Also, make sure that if you have moved the address in your USATF Connect account is your current address.
Rules Changes
This is a Rules Change Year for USATF, meaning that at the Annual Meeting in December, proposals for changes in the Rules of Competition will come up for a vote. However, the process starts during the summer with proposals for changes due to the Rules Committee by August 15. Proposed amendments from Masters athletes must be submitted through the Masters Track and Field Committee and should be sent to the Chair (mtfchair@usatf.org) by August 1. The Officials Committee has prepared a guide for Rule Changes Submissions that can be viewed here by those interested in making proposals. If you have changes you would like to submit, please contact one of the Officers, Bill Murray (Chair of the Championships Games Subcommittee), or Sandy Pashkin (our representative on the Rules Committee) before making a submission.
