TRAINING

All athletes train, but how, when and where is highly variable. Masters athletes must determine what type of training methods work best for them by considering such factors as personal goals, age, exerience, fitness level, ability, schedule, climate, local support, and access to equipment and facilities. Below are some some suggestions about training for the masters track and field athlete.


WEB SITES
There is an abundance of training information on the internet, easily found by using popular search engines. There are also many different approaches to training and plenty of training fads, much like diet fads, that need to be viewed with caution. If you are just a beginner make sure that you start with fundamentals and do enough research to find safe and reliable methods and that will meet your particular needs. There are a few training web sites here that may be helpful to you.

LOCAL RESOURCES
Joining a local training group can make training both more enjoyable and effective. Check for track CLUBS in your area or contact your USATF ASSOCIATION for human resources in your area. Local running specialty stores may also be able to provide useful information about active training groups.

BOOKS & VIDEOS
There are many books and videos pertaining to virtually every aspect of track and field training, some of which focus on athletes over 40. Retail sites such as Amazon.com have large inventories to choose from. Check the PUBLICATIONS page, too.

Q&A FORUMS
Chat rooms and Q&A sites on the interntet provide wide access to training methods and enable athletes to obtain answers to specific questions about training. A few forums are included here.
